Refresh Pittsburgh is the heart of the Pittsburgh web design and development community. I took my friend's offer to redesign it's identity and web site. His only criteria was that he wanted something that felt exclusive to Pittsburgh, while of course reflecting the values of the organization.
After some exploration, I came across one concept that I felt was the perfect fit. Inspired by ascii art and HTML, I decided to use a visual language made up of characters derived from the language. These characters were used to create regional symbolism, patterns, and influence formal design decisions in which created a cohesive image across all mediums for the organization.
